Missing Mr. Sendak

"And now," cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!"

- "Where the Wild Things Are," 1963

One of my earliest memories involves this book.  My parents read it to me many times, every day.  As I've grown and become a teacher, it's been one of my favorite books to read aloud to my classes.  Since I've become a parent, I've been sure to share this story with both of my children.
Thank you, Mr. Sendak, for the love of language and books you have shared.

  1. I was sad to hear about his passing as well! He wrote many wonderful books. I love to read Where the Wild Things Are to my class each year too.

  2. This was the first book my mother bought just for me. I was in second grade and it had just come out. Now I also am a second grade teacher. Thanks for bringing back that memory.
